After our initial consultation call, I immediately knew how I wanted to design Jeffrey and Jonathan’s wedding to truly reflect their impeccable taste and the bond they share. Hosting their celebration in the backyard of Jeffrey’s parents’ home in San Diego, I was gifted with the perfect canvas to bring our shared vision to life. Here’s a glimpse into how we turned their dream into a day to remember.

From the moment we first spoke, I could tell Jeffrey and Jonathan had impeccable style. Working with clients who have such a clear vision is always an opportunity for me to draw inspiration from their unique taste. Collaborating with them to weave their distinct vibe into their wedding day is a process I love! Jeffrey and Jonathan’s design sensibilities are not only distinct but also effortlessly cool, making the planning of their day an exciting creative journey.
Their style screamed mid-century modern with a twist – rich jewel tones of orange and green set against the backdrop of dark metals and wrought iron for that perfect blend of elegance and masculinity. The use of darker metals throughout the day, juxtaposed with the vibrant colors and the natural greenery and landscape of the backyard, ensured the design remained fresh, clean, and unmistakably modern.
My team and I transformed the front yard into a lounge area, where guests were greeted with a full bar and some signature welcome drinks. Custom pillows bearing the grooms’ unique monogram and carefully selected lounge furniture helped create an elevated cozy setting for the backyard festivities. It was these personal touches that made the space feel like a true extension of Jeffrey and Jonathan’s home.
The backyard ceremony was intimate and heartwarming. It was officiated by Jeffrey’s father, with the grooms’ two nieces and nephew joining as their official wedding party. The design centerpiece, an asymmetrical arch, seamlessly integrated with the home’s built-in water/fire feature, providing a stunning backdrop for their vows. It wasn’t just about creating a visual statement but crafting a space that felt deeply personal and meaningful.
After the ceremony, my team and I quickly transformed the space from ceremony to reception. We replaced ceremony chairs with tall cocktail and pub tables, encouraging guests to mingle and celebrate. The buffet-style dinner showcased the grooms’ favorite cuisines, moving away from tradition to embrace a more relaxed, yet undeniably chic, dining experience. The inclusion of an oyster bar and signature cocktails added a layer of luxury to the evening.
What made this wedding truly stand out were the personal details. From the hanging floral piece above the bar to the metal terrariums carried by the flower girls, every element was a nod to Jeffrey and Jonathan’s unique love story. The lounge area on the upper patio not only provided guests with a stunning view but also served as a picturesque backdrop for family photos.
Reflecting on Jeffrey and Jonathan’s wedding, I’m reminded of the power of personalization in creating unforgettable moments. Their trust in my vision allowed me to design a celebration that was not only visually breathtaking but also deeply personal. It was an honor to help bring their dream wedding to life, and a reminder of why I love what I do.
I wish Jeffrey and Jonathan nothing but the best! Every wedding day feels like a dream, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such significant moments in the lives of amazing couples. It’s a huge responsibility, but one that brings me immense joy. A heartfelt thank you to Jeffrey and Jonathan for entrusting me with their special day and their vision. Wishing you both a lifetime filled with happiness, love, and laughter.
